“When the apocalypse finally comes, I’ll be happy to have Kate riding shotgun with me.”

A. Connors spent his PHD underground at CERN, helping design one of the detectors for the Large Hadron Collider. He has also taught physics in Sudan, sold encyclopedias in Chicago and fitted Wi-Fi in refugee camps in Greece.

He now writes transformative and spine-tingling novels for teen and YA readers, including his debut, The Girl Who Broke the Sea, which was nominated for the Yoto Carnegie Awards, and Find Me After, a chilling thriller inspired by Adam’s own experience living with epilepsy.

THE BOOKs WHICH MOST INSPIRED A. CONNORS

It was always Sci-Fi for me. I’ll read, watch, listen to bad Sci-Fi over good anything else. Much to the dismay of my family. I stumbled across Robert Heinlein in the library when I was too young to really understand it, but I was hooked. I love the possibilities of Sci-Fi, but I can’t be doing with Fantasy—I just can’t relate to characters who don’t share the same laws of physics as me. I’m influenced by all the big names: Asimov, Clarke, Atwood, Vonnegut, Miéville, Gibson, Bradbury, Robinson, Wells. But more recently I discovered and lost my heart to George Saunders.

A. CONNORS about KATE

Kate reached out after I was selected for Undiscovered Voices and we met in my favourite cinema pub, the Everyman in Kings Cross. Right away, I was blown away by Kate’s enthusiasm, ambition, and candour. I felt that when the apocalypse finally comes, I’ll be happy to have Kate riding shotgun with me as we face down the nuclear mutated hoards. Which is pretty much what you’re looking for in an agent.

KATE ABOUT A. CONNORS

Adam was selected for the Undiscovered Voices Anthology in 2020 and had several agents wishing to represent him so I’m really glad he chose me.  His clear glass writing draws you into his stories, which are shocking, moving, thoughtful and utterly gripping.  He creates terrific settings with other worldly elements, which are grounded in science. He also delivers emotional weight via his flawed and relatable young characters. To top all that he is extremely diligent and rewarding to work with: the perfect client.
