Dan Newling is an award-winning freelance journalist and documentary producer. He has written for just about every British newspaper and produced documentary films for the BBC and HBO.
His films include The Fires that Foretold Grenfell, which won a Royal Television Society award in 2019. In 2018 he was part of the BBC Newsnight team which won a Royal Television Society award for its coverage of the Grenfell Tower disaster.
Previously Dan worked for the Daily Mail newspaper where his investigation into the UK's then Attorney General won him a finalist's nomination for Scoop of the Year at the British Press Awards.
Dan was the first journalist to interview widower Shrien Dewani after the murder of Shrien’s wife, Anni, in Cape Town in 2010. Dan’s conviction that Shrien was falsely accused of planning and paying for her murder compelled him to write Bitter Dawn.
